ETHNO '99 15 October Gyrgy Szabados Grencs Kollektva Saxophone Ensemble of the South-Alfld Tin Tin Quartet 16 October Dresch Quartet Irn Lovsz Makm Workshop Kroly Binder Battuta The term "ethno" must be understood in a rather metaphoric wide sense: the ethno-contemporary and the ethno-jazz generic definition is characterized by the lack of strict styles and the simultaneity of different systems of form. The Ethno festival-series is ten years old this year. With respect to its profile it is primarily defined by chamber-like, contemporarily inspired productions applying improvisational possibilities at a high degree. The only limit is some kind of ethnic orientation - the presentation of those musical trends of our age in which a synthesis of Hungarian folk music and the music of neighbouring peoples, Eastern and archaic cultures with other trends and compositional methods can be observed. | |

SENSE OF SPATIAL CONNECTIONS Visual and Audial Spaces Ren Clair: Entr' Acte (1924) Music by Gyrgy rvai Germaine Dulac: La coquille et le clergyman (1926) Music by Andrea Szigetvri - Gbor Tth * music by Mihly Dresch Mihly Kertsz: My Brother Is Coming (1919) Music by Andrea Szigetvri (with the participation of dr. Mris) The soundlessness of silent movies means a challenge even today: Besides the well-known works of Clair and Dulac the audience can also see My Brother is Coming, a propaganda film prepared by Mihly Kertsz (whose name became known as a result of Casablanca) during the 1919 Communist regime of Hungary. The program includes live instrumental improvisation (Mihly Dresch), electronically generated sound material (Gyrgy rvai), music composed on computer and improvised electronic music (Andrea Szigetvri-Gbor Tth) as well.
