BOHEMIA IN BUDAPEST '99 - THE 10TH YEAR It is the tenth year that the Beer Order of Prague organizes its Bohemia Festival in Budapest and the fourth year that the event takes place within the framework of the Autumn Festival. In 1989 Bohumil Hrabal's 75th birthday was the "pretext". Unfortunately, such birthdays have been replaced by anniversaries: the 85th this year. Beside the old acquaintances - the Staropramen beer and the Ps� Voj�ci group which is celebrating its 20th birthday with a special concert-program - a pantomime show and a Menzel movie is waiting for the friends of Czech culture. The performance of two world-famous artists (jazz musician Ji�i Stiv�n and pantomime artist Ctibor Turba) is a picture of the events of the past decade imbued with a kind of special Czech irony. Menzel's film - shot with the actors of the Semafor Theater that used to be so popular in Czechoslovakia - is a real Czech movie with a detective-novel-like story, lots of absurd humor and great songs. THE TALES OF THE ARABIAN NIGHTS The evening is an attempt to revive the ancient tradition of story telling: instead of reading them the writers perform their writings sometimes with the help of the improvisation technique. We request the writers to create tales on the spot on the basis of the instructions of the audience. The literary program is accompanied by a playful "Arabian Night" fashion show. The visitors can also enjoy a klezmer concert, a strolling company, exotic dishes and a stomach dance show. (In joint organization with the J�zsef Attila Circle of young writers)

PERIODICALS ON THE TURN OF THE MILLENNIUM Meeting of Hungarian Cultural Periodicals Within the framework of the successful series of the M�csarnok all the cultural periodicals, weeklies that have participated in the series so far are invited alongside with a dozen publishing houses. There will be literary recitals, films, amateur theatrical productions and a chamber exhibition of fine arts during the evening in which the participants of the most successful programs will take part. The visitors will also get the chance to see the publication compiled of the programs of the series.
