Exhibition of G�bor Rosk� According to representatives of the wide artistic circle G�bor Rosk� is one of the outstanding figures of contemporary Hungarian art. His iconography preserves the trails of the lyrics of the city of Budapest. Many of his characters are animals performing mysterious acts in men's clothes. His strange world and his unique art is regarded as the outstanding and significant achievement of Hungarian fine arts. (Supported by the Fine Arts Board of NKA)

THE STREETLIGHT adaptation of texts by Vil�m Flusser ... the radical questioning concerning streetlights demonstrates that the circumstances of man's life may not be traced back to one or a couple of forces. The word "radical" does not mean any more that we are digging down to the roots - it means we are digging down to the whole where the root should be if there were a root left. Exhibition of Ferenc Lantos None of the trends of his art lacks some elements of music: beats, stages, divisons, i.e. the poetic possibilities originating form rhythm are liberated here. The main role is played by the small modifications of the long and ascetic process: no trace of orchestral effects, his works are rather like chamber pieces. The most touching element of the other main trend of his art is personality: a sensitivity that cannot be explained and expressed through the system." (Tam�s Aknai)

Exhibition of the ��d� Kaliska Group (Poland) The group will stage a historical picture by a 19th century Hungarian painter. The script of this happening-like action moving a lot of characters is rather vague. The details are subject to change on the basis of the characters' improvisations and the circumstances emerging in the course of the creation of the "historical picture". The makers of the clothes, the designers and the super-models presenting the clothes have become determinative media phenomena of the end of the Millennium: they are more strongly present in the common conscience than ever. Some designers flood the stage with clothes-sculptures, while others create models which completely ignore the characteristics of the body and are basically impossible to wear. The body for which these clothes are designed is perfect: a genetically recreated copy of the original. designers and artists introduce their works at the Alibi Fashion show.

Bob Ostertag photo: Jamie Tanaka HUMAN BODY ELECTRONICS �99 11th international performance festival "The 11th international performance meeting organized by the Studi� ert� of �rsek�jv�r/ Nov� Z�mky, Slovakia - an international arts-designers group - is closely connected in both its concept and theme to the meetings that have been marked by the name Transart Communication. In the Human Body Electronics '99 project the communication is realized with the help of the human body and electronics. The performances emerging from the relationship of electronics, the newest technical achievement of the end of the Millennium, and human body, the most ancient "artistic tool" are created in several spots and several countries. The group of artists invited to Budapest includes: Bob Ostertag, the Slovakian Lengow and Hermes group and Heinrich L�ber from Switzerland. Foot and Foot-ware - as performance and installation. The context of the personal (foot) and the impersonal (footwear/ footware!): the combined / simultaneous reading of the individual, tribal, national, international, biological, philosophical, technological, social, political, and artistic contents offers an opportunity for a different kind of reading in the framework of this exhibition. Exhibition of L�szl� M�hes "I regard myself more of a visual artist than a traditional painter" - says L�szl� M�hes, one of the most outstanding figures of the Hungarian fine arts of the 60's and 70's who presently lives in Paris. Their works can be found in the most famous Hungarian fine arts collections an also in several collections abroad. His post-1979 works are hardly known to the Hungarian connoisseurs. His latest pictures are exhibited in the M�csarnok.

NET XXI. Exhibition of Ren�e Kellner (Austria) and Istv�n Horkay The visual traces of different ages can be observed in the pictures of the two artists. For the sake of other forms of rationality they are trying to prove the importance of an intellectual experience aiming at the construction of a pseudo-internet background.

Canadian Gutman Group Exhibition of the Canadian-Hungarian painter group and Doris Mc Carthy (Canada) The group of artists that has been formed recently has looked for and found a common form of expression in the sign and the lasting trace it leaves in the form of a picture.

21 October to 28 November	Kort�rs M�v�szeti M�zeum - Ludwig M�zeum
Sigmar Polke (N�metorsz�g) GOUACHE Sigmar Polke - born in 1941, living in K�ln - is one of the most widely known figures of contemporary German art. This exhibit presents 40 of his drawings made in 1996 with the gouache-technique. Polke has been working with this characteristic technique of his since the 60's. It is as if he would magnify a huge offset-print that is slipped aside: he builds up his pictures from points of colour painted top of each other. In the exhibited drawngs he combines this raster developed from the above technique of multiplication with richly painted surfaces reminding the viewer of his large colorful paintings. Endre T�t (Germany): NEW PAPER WORKS The last time the works of the artist - who lives in Germany - were shown in Budapest was a retrospective exhibit organized by the M�csarnok in 1995. Now the visitors have the chance to see his latest works. He has been making his "shortage" pictures since 1987: this means that the work is a black or white spot with a precise caption or a partly erased picture. " C�zanne insisted on painting what he saw. This is perfectly normal. I am doing the opposite: I am painting what I do not see, the visible lack of painting. This is also perfectly normal."
